Rejuran Treatment Geelong

Rejuran Treatment Geelong

Rejuran is one of a number of biostimulatory injectable treatments we use as part of our regenerative treatment plans at RiverEnd Aesthetics. Made up of polynucleotide chains, Rejuran works by promoting healing, decreasing inflammation, hydrating, and stimulating your skin’s fibroblasts to create new collagen.

Rejuran can smooth fine lines and wrinkles, brighten skin tone, improve texture and skin quality, reduce redness, restore elasticity and minimise pore size. Rejuran is often injected around the eyes and over the face and cheeks to promote healthy processes within the deeper layers of the skin.

Treatment sessions take 15-30 minutes to perform.

Initial consultation is required to assess your skin needs and discuss your full medical history.

An initial course of 2-4 treatment sessions are generally recommended, around 2-6 weeks apart. Maintenance injections are required. Optimal results are seen in 3-6 months.

Rejuran Treatment Geelong

What areas can be treated with Rejuran?

Around the eyes

Rejuran-I is used in the peri-occular region as our skin is often more fragile, thin and crepey over our eyelids and crows feet areas. Here, Rejuran works to boost the skin’s fibroblasts to improve skin thickness and firmness, minimise the appearance of dark circles, and smooth fine lines and crinkles.

Face & Cheeks

Rejuran is injected into the dermis over our cheekbones, cheeks and jowl areas in the lower face to improve sagging skin, restore elasticity, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, hydrate and brighten our skin tone. Rejuran also works to minimise pore size and reduce inflammation and redness.

Acne Scars

Rejuran-S is a specific formulation designed for injection into acne scars. Rejuran-S boosts dermal fibroblasts to produce new collagen, smoothing the appearance of pitted acne scars (ice pick, rolling and boxcar scars).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Rejuran?

Rejuran is a bio-remodelling injectable made up of polynucleotides (amino acids). Polynucleotides are essentially the building blocks of DNA, and DNA carries instructions for the normal development, growth, function and reproduction of our cells. Injecting Rejuran into the dermis (the deeper layer of our skin) promotes DNA synthesis, which helps to bio-stimulate a number of normal, healthy skin cell processes, including restoration of the normal function and efficiency of fibroblasts.

How does Rejuran work?

Rejuran works via three main mechanisms:

1. Rejuran stimulates fibroblasts to create new collagen and elastin, as well as other important proteins in the scaffold or “matrix” of our skin. This helps to strengthen the skin barrier, and improves skin thickness, firmness, and laxity. Neocollagenesis (formation of new collagen) can also help to improve the appearance of acne scarring.
2. Rejuran attracts moisture, improving hydration and the overall texture of our skin.
3. Rejuran polynucleotides induce anti-inflammatory processes, which work to reduce skin redness, promote healing, minimise pore size, and improve overall skin tone and texture.

There are now quite a number of decent, peer-reviewed scientific publications demonstrating injectable polynucleotides can:
– promote wound healing
– promote collagen synthesis
– promote angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels)
– restore the histological features of normal, healthy skin
– prevent apoptosis (the death of healthy cells)
– induce anti-inflammatory processes

There are three different Rejuran formulations we can use for various indications:
– Rejuran: injected over the face and cheeks
– Rejuran-I: injected around the eyes, eyelids and crows feet areas
– Rejuran-S: used to improve the appearance of acne scars

What conditions can Rejuran improve?

Rejuran biostimulatory polynucleotide injections can help the following skin conditions:
– fine lines and wrinkles
– skin crepiness
– dry skin
– uneven skin tone
– skin with rough or irregular texture
– enlarged pores
– increased skin laxity (mild skin sagging)
– dark tear-trough circles under the eyes
– acne scarring

Where does Rejuran come from?

Rejuran polynucleotides are actually extracted from the gonads of wild salmon! Rejuran was developed by scientists and doctors in Korea, where many people strive to achieve “glass skin” with perfectly smooth texture, flawless tone, and a dewy, translucent complexion.

Korean scientists saw a need to develop a skin booster capable of improving these qualities in the skin, and launched Rejuran in 2014. Since then, despite its rather interesting origins, Rejuran has demonstrated a robust safety profile and there are an increasing number of peer-reviewed research articles being published proving its benefits in multiple different skin conditions.

Results

As with all regenerative aesthetic treatments, results take time. Although some patients report improvement within 1-2 weeks of injections, optimal results are seen 3-6 months after the initial course of treatment as this is how long it takes for new collagen remodelling and elastin formation to occur.

Results are highly variable, and depend on the areas we are treating and what we are trying to achieve. Regenerative skin treatment plans at RiverEnd Aesthetics often involve multiple different types of treatment if we’re aiming for optimal results.

How many Rejuran treatments will I need?

Rejuran treatment involves lots of little injections into the skin around the treatment area.
An initial course of 2-4 treatment sessions are generally recommended, around 2-6 weeks apart. Maintenance injections are required, and the frequency of these maintenance treatments will depend on the area we are treating and what we are trying to achieve. Unfortunately, as we are still ageing, we need to continue biostimulation with Rejuran injections and other regenerative treatment modalities in order to boost collagen and maintain overall skin health.

How long does a Rejuran treatment session take?

Treatment sessions take 15-30 minutes to perform, depending on the area to be injected, whether you have applied numbing cream beforehand, and whether other treatments need to be carried out at the same appointment (eg. subcision for acne scarring).

Does it hurt?

Rejuran injections can sting a little without topical numbing cream, so we advise numbing cream is applied beforehand. Our doctors will explain this during your initial consultation and assessment.

How is Rejuran different to dermal fillers?

Rejuran is a clear, watery, slightly viscoelastic substance, with the consistency of thin honey. It does not contain any hyaluronic acid, and is very different to dermal filler products.

Put very simply, dermal fillers can be used to replace lost volume in the skin and deeper tissues, whereas Rejuran is injected to stimulate the biochemical processes within the skin itself.

Rejuran kickstarts your own collagen and elastin production and is not designed to replace lost volume.

Are there side effects or risks?

There are a number of common side effects after Rejuran injections:

  • The injected droplets create lots of tiny, visible bumps in the skin; these last 1-3 days before disappearing.
  • Pinpoint bruises at injection sites.
  • Redness at the treatment sites.
  • Minor swelling can occur, and in rare instances swelling can be moderate-to-severe.
  • Less commonly, a burning or itching sensation at the treatment sites can occur, and last up to 12 hours.

Unlike dermal filler injections, Rejuran has not caused “vascular occlusions” by blocking an artery, so it is not associated with skin ulcers, blindness or stroke like dermal fillers. There are no reported longterm risks associated with Rejuran.

Is there downtime? Is there aftercare advice?
  • The visible bumps at the Rejuran injection sites can persist for 48 hours; sometimes slightly longer in thinning or more ageing skin. Massaging the bumps can help to dissipate them sooner, but they will still be visible to a degree.
  • Some people might like to plan for a couple of days of downtime if feeling self-conscious.
  • Small bruises are common and should be expected. We recommend avoiding blood thinners, aspirin, NSAIDs and fish oils for up to 7 days prior to treatment, if it is safe for you to stop taking these medicines.
  • Clean make-up can be applied the day after treatment.
  • Cool packs and antihistamines can help to soothe any mild itching or slight burning sensations in the hours after injections, although these side effects are less common.
  • As always, we need to see you for a follow up consultation if you experience any unexpected or severe side effects so we can support you and prescribe any necessary treatment.
Am I a candidate?

Rejuran is suited to most skin types across most age groups and can treat a whole range of skin concerns, however our doctors need to consider individual factors when deciding whether Rejuran is suitable for you.

Often, Rejuran is used in conjunction with other treatment modalities to achieve the best results. As always, a consultation is very important to discuss the pro’s and con’s in your particular situation, and to ensure we all have realistic expectations.

Is advertising injectable Rejuran legal?

For now, yes, advertising Rejuran is legal. In March 2024 the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) placed restrictions on advertising cosmetic injectables listed as prescription medications.

Botulinum toxin formulations and dermal fillers are listed as medications under the TGA, however Rejuran is listed as a device. There are currently no significant restrictions on advertising medical devices such as Rejuran, Ultherapy or dermal lasers in Australia.
